Root for Our Future
Building food resilience within Torfaen
In Summer 2024, we at Climate Action Torfaen were thrilled to be awarded a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund to back ‘Root for our Future’, a project to explore food security and promote sustainable food practices within Torfaen.
What is the Project?
Its all about food! And how the food choices we make every day have an impact on our planet. Good food practices will protect the environment, support our community and ensure that we (and our great-great-great-grandchildren!) will all have enough to eat. But what exactly are good food practices, and what does that look like within Torfaen?
Over the next two years, we will be holding a series of events to explore that very question. This will include:
- Food growing and preservation workshops
- Day trips to local regenerative growers
- Film screenings of appropriate documentaries
- Panel discussions and webinars with local experts
- An annual Harvest Festival and feast where we can showcase our growing knowledge and bring the community together to support and celebrate local growers.
These events are open to anyone who is interested. And the best part? All of our events will be completely, absolutely, 100% free of charge!
Want to learn how to grow your own food in a way that also nourishes the earth and encourages biodiversity? Want to cut down your carbon footprint and help our community thrive by eating more nutritious, locally grown food? Want to become part of a local network that supports growers, residents, and the natural world around us? Then you’re in the right place.
